Kia Motors plan to produce world-class cars from Anantapur district facility



Kia Motors, headquartered in Seoul, is the sixth largest producer of cars and SUVs. The company is entering the Indian market with an investment of $2 billion and with production capacity of 300,000 vehicles per year from the world-class manufacturing facility in Anantapur district in Andhra Pradesh.

Crescendo Worldwide, an international trade & FDI generating organization, has joined hands with Kia Motors for manufacturing cost-efficient cars in India.

Executing this vision, Crescendo Worldwide organized Kia Motors Supplier Meet in New Delhi on May 29, where over 200 Tier-1 and Tier-2 companies and suppliers from various cities of India met the Kia Motors India Team. The event was in line the Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s ‘Make in India’ vision.

The event was addressed by Mr. Lee Sanghwa, Chief Procurement Officer of Kia Motors India, Mr. Vishal Jadhav, President, and Ms. Nidhi Shree, Head - Strategic Global Business Expansion, Crescendo Worldwide.

A total of 25 Korean Tier-1 suppliers of Kia Motors participated in the event. Indian companies also got an opportunity to see the latest models of Kia Motors and to know more about parts, components and assemblies.

LANXESS launches new PBT compound for battery components in electric cars

Extremely low warpage and particularly high flame retardance




Specialty chemicals company LANXESS has developed a new compound called Pocan AF4130 in collaboration with HELLA KGaA Hueck & Co., based in Lippstadt, Germany. It serves as a housing material for a battery management unit (BMU) and two cell monitoring units (CMU). The blend of polybutylene terephthalate (PBT) and acrylic ester-styrene-acrylonitrile (ASA) contains 30 per cent by weight glass fibers and a halogen-based flame retardance package. “The particular advantages of the material are its extremely low warpage and shrinkage, combined with its high flame retardance. We see great potential for application in precision components for vehicle battery systems,” says Marc Marbach, head of Sales Segments E&E in the LANXESS High Performance Materials (HPM) business unit. It took just two-and-a-half years to go from the initial idea to extensive testing and finally to use in full-scale production.

HELLA fabricates the BMU and CMUs for a German manufacturer of battery systems for motor vehicles. The very flat devices currently are used in the lithium-ion battery system of a German compact car.

Low tolerances

The housings of the BMU and CMUs have large, flat surfaces as well as complex geometries along the edges and on the inside. Thanks to their innovative design, they can be injection molded cost-effectively as single components. The contact pins for the connectors must not bend when the housings are mounted on the printed circuit boards. The tolerances for the spacing between the connector mounts and the cut-outs for the pins are therefore extremely close. “This is precisely where the outstanding dimensional stability of our blend Pocan AF4130 pays off,” explains Marbach.

UL 94 5VA- and UL f1-listed

As required for this application, the material achieves the best classification of V-0 (0.75 millimeters) in UL 94 fire testing by the U.S. testing organization Underwriters Laboratories Inc. It further is listed on the UL Yellow Card with a good classification of UL 94 5VA (1.5 millimeters). The material is destined for the injection molding of flame-retardant housing components. It additionally has been given a UL f1 listing for use in outdoor applications involving exposure to UV light and water. “Our compound thus has a good chance of also being used for electrical components such as photovoltaic plugs and sockets,” says Marbach.

Low volatile and condensable emissions

Surfaces made of this thermoplastic are very low-emission, as demonstrated by thermal desorption analyses conducted by LANXESS in accordance with VDA 278 (German Association of the Automotive Industry). “It is therefore also suitable for many motor vehicle applications requiring very low volatile and condensable emissions, such as components for the automotive interior,” says Marbach.

Good resistance to common battery electrolytes

The blend is highly resistant to typical media used in motor vehicles, such as fuels, oils, cleansers and car care products, as proven in extensive media storage tests conducted by LANXESS for HELLA in accordance with the supply specification LV 124, used by many automotive manufacturers. It also displays good resistance to an electrolyte widely used in lithium-ion batteries. The corresponding test was additionally conducted under load in compliance with DIN EN 22088-3. “No cracks were evident in the samples even after 1,000 hours of exposure,” explains Marbach.

Comprehensive HiAnt services

LANXESS provided HELLA with extensive support in developing the housing components. These services are part of its HiAnt customer service package. For example, HPM delivered suggestions for optimal component design, provided all the characteristic material data required for the computer-aided design of the housing parts to meet expected loads and for the mold flow analyses, and supported the initial injection molding trials. The specialty chemicals company further determined the blend’s halogenide content for HELLA by means of ion chromatography and conducted odor testing to VDA 270.

BASF and Xerion partner to advance personalized nutrition in Asia Pacific



BASF and Xerion have entered into a three-year agreement to take personalized nutrition to the next level in Asia Pacific. In this collaboration, BASF’s human nutrition brand, Newtrition, will have the exclusive distribution rights to market PUFAcoat Omega-3 Index test kits, Xerion’s proprietary dried blood spot technology.  

One of the major limitations in ascertaining omega-3 levels in populations is the difficulty in stabilizing long chain polyunsaturated fatty acids prior to analysis. Xerion’s technology stabilizes eicosapentaenoic acid (EPA) and docosahexaenoic acid (DHA) on a solid matrix for up to nine weeks at room temperature and up to two weeks at 40 degrees Celsius, allowing for highly accurate readings. The technology has been successfully used in numerous clinical trials worldwide and these kits can provide personalized fatty acid profiling directly to consumers in major supplement markets initially covering China, Japan, Malaysia, Singapore, South Korea, Australia and New Zealand.

The omega-3 index is defined as the total concentration of EPA and DHA in red blood cells, expressed as a percent of total fatty acid content. It was developed in 2011 by Professor William Harris and Professor Clemens von Schacky as one of the key biomarkers in tracking cardiovascular health. Globally, more than 17 million deaths a year are caused by cardiovascular disease, thus making it a key concern for consumers worldwide. 

Xerion’s technology allows for highly accurate readings of omega-3 index, empowering consumers to make informed choices on improving their omega-3 levels by increasing their intake through food or supplements.

Honda’s 2018 Gold Wing deliveries commenced

First customer rides to Gold standard of touring in the royal city of Jaipur



Honda Motorcycle and Scooter India Pvt. Ltd. commenced the deliveries of the King of Tourers-Gold Wing at a grand event in Jaipur, Rajasthan. 2018 Gold Wing made its India debut at the 2018 Auto Expo.

Suzuki Motorcycle India introduces Access 125 with Combined Braking System (CBS); also unveils new Access Special Edition

Tata Motors electrifies Madhya Pradesh after Maharashtra

Honda 2Wheelers India shares exciting preview of Honda India Talent Cup – CBR 250R class



Honda Motorcycle and Scooter India Pvt. Ltd. is all set to charge up the domestic motorsports season which begins this week-end. This year, 6 Honda riders will be participating across various categories of Indian National Motorcycle Racing Championship.

Honda has already kick-started the 2018 motorsports season with 1st Indian team (IDEMITSU Honda Racing India by T Pro Ten10) in Asia Road Racing Championship (ARRC). The team includes second timer Rajiv Sethu and Anish Shetty who scored his first ever international points in Round 2 (Australia). In the 3rd round in Japan both riders finished in top 25. With 3 rounds to go Honda 2Wheelers India riders are all set to enthral the spectators in the next round in Chennai.

Identified for his performance in Honda One Make Race – CBR 150R Novice class 2017, 17-year-old Senthil Kumar from Coimbatore, is a part of the Pro Stock 165 class of Indian National Motorcycle Racing Championship. Participating in the Thai Talent Cup, Senthil showcased promising talent, finishing in the top 12 in the first round itself.

With 26 registrations received, 20 riders will race for podium glory in Round 1 this week-end. Delta Electronics India launches DC Fast-Charger station for Electric Vehicles at Maharashtra Mantralaya

Delta Electronics India Pvt. Ltd., a leading Power and Energy management company, launched Mumbai’s first DC Fast-Charger station at Maharashtra Mantralaya. 

The EV Charging Station was launched by Dr. Harsh Vardhan Union Minister for Science & Technology & Earth Sciences, Government of India, and Mr. Devendra Fadnavis, Chief Minister of Maharashtra.

Mr. Akshaye Barbuddhe, Business Head of EV Charging Solutions business of Delta Electronics India, said: “With our new range of electric vehicle charging solutions, we intend to support the GOI’s mission to drive electric mobility. Hyundai joins hands for ‘Beating Plastic Pollution’ on World Environment Day 2018



Hyundai Motor India Ltd. (HMIL) announced its initiatives supporting the cause  ‘Beating Plastic Pollution’ on ‘World Environment Day 2018’ along with free PUC, Emission check and Dry Wash for Hyundai Cars on June 5.

Commenting on the initiatives, Mr. Rakesh Srivastava, Director - Sales & Marketing, HMIL, said: “Being a socially responsible caring brand, Hyundai believes in raising awareness about environment conservation, towards building a sustainable future for conducive growth. In accordance, this year’s theme is ‘Beating Plastic Pollution’, for which we are exploring green alternatives to reduce the usage of plastics across all our offices, dealers and service networks. Hyundai will be observing June 2018 as Environment Preservation Month by integrating several sustainability initiatives towards water conservation and pollution check through Free Dry wash technique, PUC and Emission Check for Hyundai cars.”

In-line with the global theme of ‘Beating Plastic Pollution’, Hyundai’s initiatives will focus on reducing the usage of plastics at its manufacturing plant in Sriperumbudur near Chennai and across all its 493 Hyundai Dealerships and 1,309 Service Workshops. Hyundai along with its vendor partners will also opt for alternate packaging material for spare parts and usage of water-borne paints. Alongside, Hyundai Dealer Workshops will conduct environment friendly activities to engage and create awareness among the customers & employees for the reduction in use of plastics, usage of LED’s that consume up to 80% less energy and proper disposal of waste material.

Hyundai encourages its valuable customers to opt dry wash for their Hyundai car during service thereby saving approx.120 litres per car. Last year, Hyundai launched a 45 days campaign – ‘Save Water, Share Water’ across India thus saving 40 lakhs litres of Water through Dry wash and distributed the same in drought affected areas in Tamil Nadu and Andhra Pradesh.  Hyundai has introduced these initiatives to conserve water Hyundai has introduced these initiatives to conserve water, control pollution and conserve energy across its network. Shivraj Singh Chouhan launches Exicom’s AC Charger on World Environment Day



The Chief Minister, Mr. Shivraj Singh Chouhan, inaugurated an electric car and Exicom’s AC Charger run by solar energy at the Mantralaya, Bhopal, Madhya Pradesh on World Environment Day. With this, the operations of e-vehicles and charging stations have begun in the State.

The Central Government started the National Electric Mobility Mission to promote electric vehicles for environmental protection. Under this, it has now decided to buy e-cars and set up charging infrastructure in Madhya Pradesh, after Gujarat, Maharashtra, Andhra Pradesh and Delhi.

Mr. Chouhan said: “The temperature of the earth is increasing each day. Pollution caused by increasing number of vehicles is destroying the environment of the cities. He said the solar-run electric vehicle is a step to check pollution. Such an eco-friendly technology is welcome”.

Exicom EV AC Charger supports latest BEVC-AC001 specifications. It is designed with 3 sockets to charge up to 15A per socket (or 3.3KW). It is suitable for installation at wide range of places including parking, service stations, commercial and residential through pedestal mount/wall mount or pole mount.



The Exicom DC charger comes with a single vehicle charging, and two connector architectures where connector A can charge at 48V/60V/72V at 3.3 kW and connector B can charge at 48V/60V/72V at 15 kW using GB/T 20234.3 connector. Whereas, AC charger comes with three outputs of 230V, 15A each using IEC 60309 Industrial sockets. Honeywell appoints Mike Banach as Regional General Manager of Honeywell UOP India



Honeywell announced the appointment of Mike Banach as Regional General Manager – Honeywell UOP India. Honeywell UOP is the leader in the supply of process technology to the petroleum refining, petrochemical, and gas processing industries.

In his new role, Mike will be responsible for spearheading Honeywell UOP business in India to sustain the growth in the region and continue to build upon UOP's work in developing and licensing process technologies used in refining, petrochemicals and renewable fuels.

Honeywell's new migration tool facilitates quick and easy upgrades of obsolete PLCs

ControlEdge Transition addresses the risks of aging plant infrastructure and equipment while increasing plant uptime and cyber security of industrial facilities


 
Honeywell Process Solutions (HPS) announced ControlEdge Transition, a tool that makes it easy to migrate obsolete, risk-prone PLCs to Honeywell ControlEdge PLCs. This transforms them from liabilities into productive assets that can enhance process uptime and strengthen the security of an industrial site.

If not addressed, outdated PLCs can lead to increased cybersecurity risk or even trigger unplanned site shutdowns. Through a fast, automated conversion process, ControlEdge Transition supports upgrades to Honeywell ControlEdge PLCs, which can then be integrated into a SCADA or DCS system. Additionally, the speed and efficiency of the conversion procedure saves systems integrators and project engineers significant time, cost and risk compared to a manual migration effort.

“Industrial sites around the world are challenged by aging infrastructure and equipment that are not being maintained properly, or which are simply no longer supported, with outdated PLCs proving particularly troublesome,” said Andrew D’Amelio, General Manager and Vice President of HPS’ Process Measurement and Control Business. “ControlEdge Transition makes migrating to up-to-date, cybersecure PLCs easy and fast.”

ControlEdge Transition can be deployed over mobile devices to survey and document the number of obsolete PLCs at a site while capturing relevant data that can be used for accurate upgrade planning. The tool’s bidding and engineering reporting capabilities can simplify the development of proposals and reduce engineering effort by 50 per cent. In addition, pre- and post-migration reports provide extensive support for design, installation and commissioning of new PLCs.

Mahindra Electric & Auroville join hands to pilot India’s first integrated sustainable mobility solution for a community



On the occasion of World Environment Day, Mahindra Electric, part of the US$20.7 billion Mahindra Group, inked a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with Auroville, an experimental township established in 1968 in Tamil Nadu, to pilot India’s first integrated sustainable mobility ecosystem for a community. This unique ecosystem will be an extension to Auroville’s several e-mobility initiatives over the last few decades. This is aligned with its endeavour to encourage lifestyle choices in quiet mobility, optimal sharing of resources and reduced carbon footprint, hop-on-hop-off shuttles and smart parking.

Under the aegis of the MoU, the two parties will work with IISc (Indian Institute of Science), Puducherry Smart City Development Ltd., GoGreen BOV, and numerous initiatives at Auroville itself to develop a holistic ecosystem encompassing Mahindra’s electric vehicles, smart parking systems, charging infrastructure and its software integration platform NEMO. It also aims to enable mobility models like ride sharing, ride hailing, self-drive rentals, etc. The Town Planner, PSCDL, supported by the French Government, will also play a key role in this initiative.

Mahindra Electric also unveiled its energy storage solution which will play a key role in enabling the ecosystem including charging infrastructure, EV parking, and an EV Support Centre. It will also help harness renewable power, thus becoming an end-to-end green solution.
