Nissan to launch its first global Digital Hub in India

Agreement with Government of Kerala paves way for new center to drive Nissan’s digital transformation




Nissan Motor Co. Ltd. signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with the Government of Kerala to establish a new global center for digital operations in India.

The Nissan Digital Hub will be the first of a number of software and information technology development centers in Asia, Europe and North America. These will comprehensively transform Nissan’s business by placing digital technology at the heart of key operations and services.



The hubs will allow Nissan to provide best-in-class user experiences, product development capabilities, security and connectivity as the automotive industry evolves, with growing use of autonomous, connected and electric vehicle technology. The first center will initially be in Technopark – a technology park owned by the Government of Kerala in Trivandrum – before moving to a permanent location in the city. Once fully operational, it will provide a range of in-house services to strengthen Nissan’s digital capabilities in India and other global markets.

“The new Digital Hub in Kerala will serve as an important engine to drive Nissan’s global digital transformation,” said Tony Thomas, Corporate Vice President and Chief Information Officer at Nissan. “This hub will help us develop and maintain a talented workforce in-house, to improve the way we serve our customers around the world.”



The investment to build the new Digital Hub adds to Nissan's commitment to India. Together with its Alliance partner Renault, Nissan already has a large manufacturing plant outside Chennai with a potential annual capacity of 480,000 vehicles for the domestic market and exports. A global Alliance R&D center, also in Chennai, employs 7,000 engineers working on projects including vehicle and technology development. Nissan's sales company for India is based in Gurgaon.

“Today, this landmark announcement marks the arrival of the first global brand to Kerala,” said Shri Pinarayi Vijayan, Chief Minister for the Government of Kerala, who also holds the information technology portfolio and attended the MoU signing. “The center brings a great opportunity for both Nissan and the region. It will not only provide Nissan access to a skilled and dedicated workforce but also allow Kerala to showcase its significant potential as a base for global business."

LANXESS: New blocked, one component urethane systems for large or complex elastomeric parts



Specialty chemicals company LANXESS announces new blocked products for cast elastomers at UTECH Europe 2018. Marketed under the brand name Adiprene K the blocked systems are based on LANXESS’s leading Low Free (LF) isocyanate technology. They offer three key benefits: Improved industrial hygiene, controlled curing and excellent performance for broader range of applications.

“A particular focus is placed on solvent- and monomer-free systems,” explains Dr. Markus Eckert, Head of the LANXESS Urethane Systems business unit, a leading innovator in the development of urethane prepolymer systems for elastomers, coatings, adhesives, and sealants. “For example, we have developed new blocked technology that offers controlled curing with higher performance and reduced hazardous classifications.”

Excellent industrial hygiene for improved worker safety

Adiprene K blocked systems have inherently good industrial hygiene, due to the incorporation of low hazard ingredients and the blocking of already low levels of residual isocyanate. As a one-component system, workers do not have to handle a separate curative, improving productivity and worker safety.

Controlled curing for large and complex parts

Adiprene K blocked systems are available as fully-formulated reactive systems. Curing of these prepolymers is triggered at a precisely defined temperature resulting in a controlled cure. “With these systems, we are targeting large and complex parts and manual processing, which is used for very low volume production,” says Eckert.

Performance for broader range of applications

Compared with traditional blocked systems, Adiprene K blocked systems provide better performance for a wide range of applications. “Now that we can control the cure and achieve higher performance,” Eckert continues, “these products open the door to new applications for urethane prepolymers.”

Potential applications include the impregnation of fabric belts, the coating of industrial rollers, and extremely large parts for the industrial, mining and oil and gas industries. These blocked systems also extend the use of urethane prepolymers into rotational molding and liquid injection molding applications.

Last but not least, LANXESS’s scientists support customers to select the best system or customize a special formulation for their needs.

TCS ranked as top 100 US brand for fourth consecutive year by Brand Finance



Tata Consultancy Services Ltd. (TCS), a leading global IT services, consulting and business solutions organization, announced that it has been ranked as one of the top 100 most valuable US brands for the fourth consecutive year by Brand Finance, the world’s leading brand valuation firm.

Brand Finance’s annual 'Top 500 US Brands' study ranked TCS 58th among America’s most valuable brands across all sectors, rising five places from last year’s analysis. This follows TCS being listed in March 2018 as one of the top three most valuable brands in the global IT services sector, according to Brand Finance’s 15th Annual IT Services report. TCS’ brand value of $10.391 billion represented a 14 per cent growth from $9.081 billion in 2017, making TCS the fastest growing brand in IT services.

Brand Finance evaluated 500 US brands by calculating the values of the companies using the ‘Royalty Relief’ valuation method. This involved estimating the likely future sales that are attributable to a brand and then calculating a royalty rate that would be charged for the use of the brand, (i.e., what the owner would have to pay for the use of the brand - assuming it were not already owned).

Sundaram AMC elevates Sunil Subramaniam as MD



Mr. Sunil Subramaniam, Chief Executive Officer, has been elevated as Managing Director of Sundaram Asset Management Company Ltd. His elevation takes effect from June 26.

Mr. Subramaniam succeeds Harsha Viji. Mr. Sunil is also on the Board of Sundaram Asset Management Singapore Pte. Ltd.

Mr. Subramaniam said: “We are growing on all fronts but my focus going forward will continue to be the retail investor.” 

Mr. Subramaniam joined Sundaram Asset Management Company in September 2005. In his tenure spanning over twelve years, he has held crucial positions and played a key role in the growth of the company.

LANXESS: Price adjustment for PA 6.6 compounds



LANXESS is raising its prices for Durethan A (polyamide 6.6) compounds in Europe, Middle East and Africa by EUR 0.60/kg with immediate effect.

The overall tight market situation with extremely limited availability of raw materials in the PA 6.6 value chain has led to further severe price increases for PA 6.6 base resin. As there are no signs of a relief, a price adjustment is unavoidable. 

The High Performance Materials business unit offers support in exploring opportunities to replace PA 6.6 applications by PA 6 or PBT grades.

LANXESS completes ten years of support to educational initiatives worldwide



For the specialty chemicals company LANXESS, social commitment, particularly with regard to exceptional education and training, has been one of the main areas of focus of its corporate policy for more than a decade now. The company launched its global education initiative in the middle of 2008 and will continue its commitment into the future. This year alone, the group is supporting at least 10 projects in India and 35 projects in Germany, with nearly 40 further projects worldwide.

“Education is the basis for the future viability of our country. The development of young people is therefore vital for us,” Rainier van Roessel, member of the board at LANXESS AG, explains the commitment of the group. “To continue to expand our position in global markets in the future, we need skilled and motivated human resource. Consequently, we want to stir enthusiasm for education at school. With our commitment, we want to encourage children and young adults to shape the future of business and their own futures.”

The specialty chemicals company has invested around eight million euros in education initiatives since 2008 to improve education and knowledge services for young people, including investments of more than rupees five crores in India. Around 700,000 students have benefited from the program in total, globally. The company has worked on over 500 education projects over the past decade, including around 22 in India. “These significant figures also highlight our commitment to India”, says van Roessel.



Focus on educational infrastructure

As part of its continual commitment towards educational initiatives, LANXESS India extended its support to Teach For India (TFI) by pledging a five year commitment to support the non-profit organization’s efforts towards providing quality education to children. The company has so far contributed an amount over INR 3,70,00,000 in the past seven years.

Push on digitalization of educational resources

LANXESS India asserted its commitment for technological intervention in educational empowerment by setting up e-learning tools in Government College, Nagda, in 2017. This project was in line with LANXESS’s vision of a digital future and also finds resonance with the current Government’s focus on creating a digitally empowered nation. Similar tools were provided to seven other municipals schools in Jhagadia & Thane. The e-learning tools will help in familiarizing students with the technological advances in education that the students from urban regions enjoy. These tools have pre-loaded content for students that is mapped with the education board. They are loaded with virtual activities like 2D and 3D graphics, voice overs and interactive content among others and helps the students as well as the teachers in explaining and understanding basic concepts. This initiative is expected to benefit over 4,000 students every year.

The company also supported computer literacy by assisting in setting up a computer training center for students and working professionals. The initiative taken by the company was to provide access to the latest computers to the workers in Nagda where they contributed computers along with electrical accessories and initial infrastructure necessary for setting up the center.

Various forms of support for education sector

In Fulwadi and Selod in Jhagadia, LANXESS India undertook initiatives to renovate the municipal school building and play area for children and incorporated various facilities like watercoolers, ceiling fans, toilet blocks, repairing of school gate and painting the boundary walls among others.

LANXESS has collaborated with the local municipal body in Nagda and set up a fully functional library equipped with textbooks, reference books, journals, magazines in order to assist in the education of students studying in secondary school, high schools and colleges.

And while supporting with teaching aids is critical, making the commute to access education smoother is another area that needed serious focus. Taking note of the difficulties students faced in travelling, LANXESS India donated a 42-seater bus to the municipal corporation for the students of the Government College in Nagda which provided a reliable transport facility and made travel easier for the students.

CarZ opens First Center at Karimnagar in Telangana

To open 20 more Multi-Brand Car Service Centers in Telangana by June 2019

Honeywell kicks off largest industrial customer gathering with a focus on digital transformation



Emerging Connected Plant technologies were the highlight today when Honeywell kicked off its largest annual gathering of industrial customers, with a focus on showing manufacturers how digital transformation can help them achieve new levels of consistently high performance.

The ability of Honeywell Connected Plant’s offerings to deliver higher levels of safety, reliability, efficiency and profitability will continue to be the primary discussion point at the Honeywell Users Group (HUG) Americas symposium, which runs through Friday. More than 1,300 delegates from across the oil and gas, chemical, pulp and paper, and metals and mining sectors are attending the event, which features numerous displays of the newest technologies along with dozens of Honeywell- and customer-led sessions and technical discussions.

Throughout the conference, Honeywell will showcase how turning data into actionable insight requires more than just upgrading technology; it requires a system for capturing, retaining and sharing knowledge that allows both the plant and its workers to perform at their best every day. Honeywell Connected Plant enables this through proven industry solutions based on decades of domain knowledge and controls experience.

It uses a head-mounted visual display that responds to voice and brings live data, documents, work procedures, as well as health and safety information into view and can connect field workers with remote experts in real time.

* Experion Batch – Combines Experion distributed control, batch automation, and new visualization technology for improved efficiency, quality and throughput.

* Measurement IQ for Gas – Provides measurement under control by transforming metering operations with 24/7 real-time condition-based monitoring.

Aims to develop Indian Iconic Riders for National & International Motorcycle Racing Championship




Following its new direction to develop ‘Iconic Indian Riders’ for National & International Championships, Honda Motorcycle & Scooter India Pvt. Ltd. kicked off the ‘IDEMITSU Honda India Talent Hunt’ identify, select and mentor young talented riders to compete in national and international racing championships.

The IDEMITSU Honda India Talent Hunt, kicked off from Bengaluru will further travel to other cities, namely, Chennai, Hyderabad, Bhubaneshwar, Aizwal (Mizoram), Delhi NCR, Bhopal, Vadodara, Pune and Coimbatore. The eminent jury members include Mr. Prabhu Nagaraj, Vice President - Brand & Communication, Honda Motorcycle & Scooter India, Mr. Koji Takahashi, Deputy Director - Brand & Communication, Honda Motorcycle & Scooter India, Mr. Yusuke Teshima, Director - T Pro Innovations Japan (Ex-MotoGP rider), and Mr. Ramji Govindrajan, Director - Ten10 Racing.



Special selection of 20 riders across 10 cities who possess mettle and passion to create a name in racing will receive professional training at Honda Ten10 Racing Academy. These riders will get an opportunity to compete with each other in the CBR 150R Novice category in the subsequent rounds of IDEMITSU Honda Talent Cup 2018.

The participants need to be in the age group of 13 to 18 to register for the talent hunt. To be selected in the final few from each location, riders will undergo a strict and strenuous process. The evaluation for each would be on the basis of below parameters:

* Physical Strength – Physical stamina and agility through various activities

* Riding Test – Handling and manoeuvring capability

* Interview Session – Rider interview & additional parent counselling session

The opening leg of the conducted in Bengaluru received a total of 33 registrations ranging in the age group of 13-18 years. The top shortlisted candidates will be trained at the Honda 10Ten Racing Academy further to which they will get an opportunity to compete in the CBR 150R Novice category in the IDEMITSU Honda India Talent Cup 2018 Round-2 at Madras Motorsports Race Track in Chennai.

Kia Motors plan to produce world-class cars from Anantapur district facility



Kia Motors, headquartered in Seoul, is the sixth largest producer of cars and SUVs. The company is entering the Indian market with an investment of $2 billion and with production capacity of 300,000 vehicles per year from the world-class manufacturing facility in Anantapur district in Andhra Pradesh.

LANXESS launches new PBT compound for battery components in electric cars

Extremely low warpage and particularly high flame retardance




Specialty chemicals company LANXESS has developed a new compound called Pocan AF4130 in collaboration with HELLA KGaA Hueck & Co., based in Lippstadt, Germany. It serves as a housing material for a battery management unit (BMU) and two cell monitoring units (CMU). The blend of polybutylene terephthalate (PBT) and acrylic ester-styrene-acrylonitrile (ASA) contains 30 per cent by weight glass fibers and a halogen-based flame retardance package. “The particular advantages of the material are its extremely low warpage and shrinkage, combined with its high flame retardance. We see great potential for application in precision components for vehicle battery systems,” says Marc Marbach, head of Sales Segments E&E in the LANXESS High Performance Materials (HPM) business unit. It took just two-and-a-half years to go from the initial idea to extensive testing and finally to use in full-scale production.

HELLA fabricates the BMU and CMUs for a German manufacturer of battery systems for motor vehicles. The very flat devices currently are used in the lithium-ion battery system of a German compact car.

Low tolerances

The housings of the BMU and CMUs have large, flat surfaces as well as complex geometries along the edges and on the inside. Thanks to their innovative design, they can be injection molded cost-effectively as single components. The contact pins for the connectors must not bend when the housings are mounted on the printed circuit boards. The tolerances for the spacing between the connector mounts and the cut-outs for the pins are therefore extremely close. “This is precisely where the outstanding dimensional stability of our blend Pocan AF4130 pays off,” explains Marbach.

UL 94 5VA- and UL f1-listed

As required for this application, the material achieves the best classification of V-0 (0.75 millimeters) in UL 94 fire testing by the U.S. testing organization Underwriters Laboratories Inc. It further is listed on the UL Yellow Card with a good classification of UL 94 5VA (1.5 millimeters). The material is destined for the injection molding of flame-retardant housing components. It additionally has been given a UL f1 listing for use in outdoor applications involving exposure to UV light and water. “Our compound thus has a good chance of also being used for electrical components such as photovoltaic plugs and sockets,” says Marbach.

Low volatile and condensable emissions

Surfaces made of this thermoplastic are very low-emission, as demonstrated by thermal desorption analyses conducted by LANXESS in accordance with VDA 278 (German Association of the Automotive Industry). “It is therefore also suitable for many motor vehicle applications requiring very low volatile and condensable emissions, such as components for the automotive interior,” says Marbach.

Good resistance to common battery electrolytes

The blend is highly resistant to typical media used in motor vehicles, such as fuels, oils, cleansers and car care products, as proven in extensive media storage tests conducted by LANXESS for HELLA in accordance with the supply specification LV 124, used by many automotive manufacturers. It also displays good resistance to an electrolyte widely used in lithium-ion batteries. The corresponding test was additionally conducted under load in compliance with DIN EN 22088-3. “No cracks were evident in the samples even after 1,000 hours of exposure,” explains Marbach.

Comprehensive HiAnt services

LANXESS provided HELLA with extensive support in developing the housing components. These services are part of its HiAnt customer service package. For example, HPM delivered suggestions for optimal component design, provided all the characteristic material data required for the computer-aided design of the housing parts to meet expected loads and for the mold flow analyses, and supported the initial injection molding trials. The specialty chemicals company further determined the blend’s halogenide content for HELLA by means of ion chromatography and conducted odor testing to VDA 270.

BASF and Xerion partner to advance personalized nutrition in Asia Pacific



BASF and Xerion have entered into a three-year agreement to take personalized nutrition to the next level in Asia Pacific. In this collaboration, BASF’s human nutrition brand, Newtrition, will have the exclusive distribution rights to market PUFAcoat Omega-3 Index test kits, Xerion’s proprietary dried blood spot technology.  

One of the major limitations in ascertaining omega-3 levels in populations is the difficulty in stabilizing long chain polyunsaturated fatty acids prior to analysis. Xerion’s technology stabilizes eicosapentaenoic acid (EPA) and docosahexaenoic acid (DHA) on a solid matrix for up to nine weeks at room temperature and up to two weeks at 40 degrees Celsius, allowing for highly accurate readings. The technology has been successfully used in numerous clinical trials worldwide and these kits can provide personalized fatty acid profiling directly to consumers in major supplement markets initially covering China, Japan, Malaysia, Singapore, South Korea, Australia and New Zealand.

The omega-3 index is defined as the total concentration of EPA and DHA in red blood cells, expressed as a percent of total fatty acid content. It was developed in 2011 by Professor William Harris and Professor Clemens von Schacky as one of the key biomarkers in tracking cardiovascular health. Globally, more than 17 million deaths a year are caused by cardiovascular disease, thus making it a key concern for consumers worldwide. 

Xerion’s technology allows for highly accurate readings of omega-3 index, empowering consumers to make informed choices on improving their omega-3 levels by increasing their intake through food or supplements.

Strong scientific evidence supports the benefits of dietary EPA and DHA for maintaining and optimizing heart and metabolic health. Honda’s 2018 Gold Wing deliveries commenced

First customer rides to Gold standard of touring in the royal city of Jaipur



Honda Motorcycle and Scooter India Pvt. Ltd. commenced the deliveries of the King of Tourers-Gold Wing at a grand event in Jaipur, Rajasthan. 2018 Gold Wing made its India debut at the 2018 Auto Expo.  

2018 Gold Wing is lighter, more powerful and extremely nimble. Revolutionary technologies in the flagship tourer include a newly-developed horizontally-opposed 6-cylinder engine, 7-speed Dual Clutch Transmission (DCT) and is the first Honda to get a double wishbone front suspension.
